He studied the profession of medicine andsurgery; was graduated from the Dartmouth Medical College,October, 1848, and married, June 13, 1849, his cousin, LucyM. Cummings, who was born October 7, 1825, the daughter ofWilliam and Sarah (Moses) Cummings, of Cape Elizabeth, Me. Jt^oJ^^ jX Dr. Shannon practiced his profession at Loudon, N. H., andat Portland, Me., where he attained high rank as a skillful physi-cian. In 1885 he retired from practice and removed to SouthBoston, Mass., where he died May 8, 1891. His widow residesin Cambridge, Mass. It is to Dr. Nathaniel Shannon that we are chiefly indebtedfor the free use made in this compilation of a number of privatepapers left by his grandfathe
