View of Bayard's Cove Quay, Looking Towards the Mouth of the River Dart with Bayard's Cove Quayside Houses, Fort and River Dart.

River Dart estuary view taken from the waterfront at Bayard's Cove Quay near Bayard's fort, Dartmouth, Devon. The rounded and worn cobbles along the quay here, were arranged in a distinctive pattern utilising the shape and colour of the stones. This picturesque waterfront setting is a very popular location for film makers. Bayard's Cove fort was built at the narrowest part of the River Dart estuary in 1534 to protect the busy port. At ground level are a series of gun ports with commanding views which can be explored today. There would have been steps to an upper walk way, a view point and location to fire muskets at potential marauders.
