Prayer flags on a ridge above Tengboche, Khumbu

Late May is the end of the spring Khumbu climbing season as moisture-laden clouds roll in from the Bay of Bengal heralding the start of the monsoon. High on a ridge top at 3867m, the Dawa Choling Gompa of Tengboche ( monastery of the Nyingma tradition) is the largest in the Khumbu region and the surrounding village has become a popular overnight stop on the Everest Basecamp Trek.
