he rains early in the year in the Serengeti greens the landscape and gives rich grazing to the animals. This triggers the great migration of the herds of wildebeest and zebra from the south towards the north of the country. The Grumeti river floods in the heavy rains and sometimes becomes impassible, and the hippo pools fill up with water. Our safari vehicle became bogged down in nearby deep mud by a young male and female lion, who were fortunately so full of food that they didn't make a move towards us as we dug out the vehicle.
