Tlic main building is two storiesand a half high with dormer windows. On each side is awing consisting of a stoiy and a half, and to each wing isattached a long enclosed colonnade, ending in two framedbuildings, also of a stoiy and a half—the eastern wing con-taining the laundry and kitchen, and the western thelibrary and overseers office. The place was formerly known as WalnutGrove, and was bought by President John Tyler of Col-lier ^Nlinge in 1842. At the time of the purchase, there wasstanding a house of Revolutionary age.
