General Sherman gave to this brigade thecredit of saving the army from destruction. Thisregiment was on the celebrated Meridian march andwent with Sherman to the sea. Upon their returnto Louisville, Kentucky, they were discharged fromthe service. Upon Colonel Bryants return to Wisconsin he re-tired to his farm near Madison and is engaged inraising fine blooded stock, especially horses and cat-tle. He was elected county judge in 1866 — againin 1870, and again in 1874. Gibson, whose ancestors werethe first settlers in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Theywere participants in the war of the revolution, andhad previously fought the Indians. His ancestorswere Irish, and came to this country shortly afterthe landing of the Pilgrims. They also were en-gaged in the revolutionary struggle. Some of themlived on the road between Lexington and Concord, and were exposed to great annoyance from theBritish soldiery. While Judge Bryant has not been distinguished asa warrior, a statesman, or a« orator, he has been in-telligent and efficient as a legislator, a judge and acitizen. He is a kind neighbor, an affectionate fatherand a loving husband; the result, doubtless, of adevoted wife whose hallowing influence over the do-mestic circle
