A comet over Lake Neowise. Made from 19 light frames by Starry Landscape. Cirencester, Gloucestershire, UK: THESE INCREDIBLE images were captured by a college lecturer from his back garden in Cirencester. With home equipment this amateur photographer shoots beautiful images of far-away galaxies and nebula to rival that of NASA. One image shows the Cone Nebula, swirling in vibrant colours of blue and yellow. Located in the constellation of Monoceros, this nebula was discovered by astronomer and composer William Herschel on December 26th, 1785. Another image captures the Flying Bat and Giant Squid Nebula, named after the appearance of the two creatures in star form. This is a combination of Nebula Sharpless 2-129, also known as the Flying Bat, and Nebula Ou4, the Giant Squid. The squid is distinguished by the blue and green emissions in the centre of the red hydrogen images were taken by sports psychology lecturer and amateur photographer Russell Discombe (34) from his back garden in Cirencester, UK. Russell has been photographing images of space phenomena for roughly seven years following his introduction to the hobby from a friend when capturing the Milky Way. ?When I first saw the faint outline of the Milky-Way pop up on the back of my camera, I was instantly hooked,? said Russell. ?Since then, I have loved venturing out in the middle of the night taking landscape astrophotos. ?For the past two years, I have been taking deep sky astro images from my back garden and posting YouTube videos about how I create these. ?The deep sky images are all captured from my garden in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. ?It?s always great to finish an image. They take a long time to create, so it?s fantastic to create and share the images. Russell has also captured images of the iconic Andromeda Galaxy. The Andromeda Galaxy is million light-years from Earth and is our closest galactic neighbour. These images take a look back in time as the light left Andromeda million
