These bandshave a great disposition to contract, and ultimately become shorter andshorter, and assist in forming a dense substance, which at length firmlyunites together the serous surfaces. This uniting substance becomesmore and more dense, and not unfrequently resembles ligament intoughness and general aspect. In this form it may frequently be seenin phthisical cases, uniting together the lobes of the lung and pleuralsurfaces.
