Newborn calf with umbilical cord still attached looking for its mom, Lake Ndutu, Tanzania

A heavy rainfall and flash flood led to a rapid rise in the water levels of Lake Ndutu and the formation of a river where there normally is none. This occurred during the season of the great migration leading to some spectacular shots of the herds and their predators in an around the flooded birth of baby wildebeest is timed to coincide with the coming of the rains and the greening of the savannah. The babies can run at full speed very shortly after birth, which helps them to survive the predators that follow the herds looking for opportunities to prey on the babies.
