The Survivor Tree, a 100-year-old Elm tree that survived the Murrah Federal Building bombing on April 19, 1995. The Survivor Tree was located in a parking lot across the street when at 9:02 am Timothy McVeigh detonated a truck bomb in front of the 9-story Murrah Federal Building, killing 168 people, 19 of which were young children in the 2nd floor daycare center. Seedlings of the tree have since been planted by survivors and at the White House. The message inscribed on the wall protecting the tree reads, "The spirit of this city and this nation will not be defeated; our deeply rooted faith sustains us."
