Smith and others (dead andliving), each with an individuality all his own and with giftsdistinguishing him from all others, made the Church a factorfor righteousness in this community. And to this power for good much was contributed by themen and women who were its active members in the years thatare past. As one recalls those sainted ones he remembers what. fine Christian men and women many of them were, and howhigh they stood in the respect of their fellows. The Churchand its interests were more to them, we tliink, than they are tomany to-day. Every servicesaw them present, and in thesocial meetings for prayer andtestimony their voices werealways heard. There is cause of thankfulness in knowing that members ofCentenary Church, throughout the years, have been prominentin much of work making for the public welfare. They havebeen to the fore in social reform movements, and have been onthe Boards of the benevolent, educational and other institutionsof our city.
