Things will be quiet in bowling circles for several weeks, several of the leading spirits being away on their vacations. The champions are receiving the congrat- ulations of their admiring friends on the splendid showing made at the S. A. F. convention. Utica Florists' Cluh Outins;. The Utica Florists' Club held its annual clambake on August 15 at Wight's grove. Whitesboro. The attendance included a large number of invited guests, among whom were the wives and sweethearts of the florists. At 9:30 o'clock in the morning tenderloin steak and mushrooms were served, while chowder was served at 1 o'clock and the bake opened at 4 o'clock. The florists had an old fashioned New England bake this year and it con- tained all the good things implied in the name. The opening of the bake proved an interesting spectacle to the women, who gathered around to witness the operations. Joseph Harding, a popular chef, was in charge and there were visi- tors present from Syracuse, Clinton, Ilion, Herkimer, Little Falls and Cana- joharie. The committee in charge of the arrangements wascomposedof Dr. W. A. Rowlands, J. C. Spencer and William Hermant. Ex-Alderman Robert Boyce was the umpire of a game of baseball played between teams captained by Dr. Rowlands and R. J. Evans, the former winning by a score of seventy-six to ten. The features of the game were the bat- ting of Rowlands, Baker and Peterson, the base running of Dr. Stafford and Dr. Bayliss, and a slide to third bag by Spencer.
