China is in the process of investing in a major expansion in beef production. Under the country's ninth Five-Year Plan, beef production is forecast to increase 150 per cent, from 1995 levels of 4 million tonnes to 10 million tonnes, requiring an estimated investment of over $1 billion. "Alberta will play a major role in this development," said Mr. Paszkowski. "Through the support of AFRD, the Alberta beef industry- will find commercial market opportunities for consulting services, feed and feed technology, cattle genetics, catde, forage and forage seed, equipment and technology, as well as high quality Alberta beef products.
