Telecommunications, Palmerston Island, Cook Islands, South Pacific. Palmerston Island is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the World. It is part of the Cook Islands group in the South Pacific, 310 miles (500 km) north-west of Rarotonga. Palmerston is a small atoll, approximately one square mile ( sq km) in area. It has a population of approximately 50 people, all descendents of an englishman, William Marsters, who arrived on the Island in 1863. A solar powered telephone and internet conection has recently been installed by Telecom Cook Islands. This now provides an important link to the outside World.
