Conway was the most accomplished of woodsmen: small instature, narrow-shouldered, and weasel-faced; insensible to fatigue,to hunger, or the vicissitudes of the weather; a shrewd hunter, askillful fisher, unfailing in resources, he was ready in every emer-rency. Nor was he destitute ofthe arts of civilized life.
