Yellow lady's bedstraw (Galium verum) forms a backing for the bright flowers of ox-eye daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare) , known as gowans in Scotland. A few of these wild flowers in a small vase brightens a room, and the lady's bedstraw gives off the pleasant smell of new-mown hay.
