Once on that road we had astraight stretch to the Blackfriars Bridge acrossthe Thames. As soon as we had crossed it werecognized our surroundings and turned into theVictoria Embankment, following it down pastthe great clubs and public buildings to North-umberland Avenue, and the portal of the Metro-pole Hotel. 147. I called upon Mr. J. W. Orde, Secretary of theAutomobile Club of Great Britain, to express mythanks for the assistance he had rendered meand the courtesies he and the Club had extended. We also visited the Touring Department whichthe Club maintains at 16 Downs Street for thebenefit of visiting motorists and members of theClub. We found there several courteous andpainstaking officials who gave us all the timenecessary to discuss our proposed trip in Eng-land, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. They alsogave us a vast amount of information and valu-able suggestions. They supplied us with all ofthe maps needed and apparently took a keen,personal interest in our
