Industrial effluent being discharged into the North Sea at Hartlepool, Cleveland. The outfall comes from the Steetley Refractories chemical plant which is visible in the background. The plant produces heat-resistant magnesium-oxide- based powders by reacting dolomitic limestone with sea water. The area is covered with white powdery deposits emitted from the factory chimney.
