The community of Ballyporeen is located in the south west of County Tipperary in Southern Ireland. The area lies between the Galtee and Knockmealdown mountain ranges. Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy. Pastoral cattle farming is primarily carried out in the fertile plain while sheep rearing and coniferous forests dominate the hill sides. For most other employment opportunities, the area lies in the commuter belts of centers such as Mitchelstown, Cahir, Clonmel and 2011 Census showed a population of 952 people living in the Ballyporeen Electoral Division, a fraction of its 1841 total of 4326.
