Bust of Patroclus, William Henry Fox Talbot, August 9,1843


In Greek mythology, as recorded in Homer's Iliad, Patroclus, or Patroklos was the son of Menoetius, grandson of Actor, King of Opus, and was Achilles' beloved comrade and brother-in-arms. This bust was used by Talbot, the inventor of the negative-positive process in many of his early photographs. The original marble bust is in the British Museum
