He wears the tiara, the cappa magna and the keys of Peter. Two putti sit on the back of the throne on either side of a medallion with the letters SPQR (Senatus PopulusQue Romanus). Minerva is at the top left. On the right, next to an angel, is a bishop with a staff, fasces and a shield. Below Adrianus' feet is part of the title of the book and below it 'E Minima [re] Maxima', from something small comes the big thing, above
