Two suchaccessions to their numberhave occurred within thememory of living individ-uals of the tribe. Both ofthese migrations consistedof one or two families each,and there are now livingin the tribe five individualswho were born on thewestern side. In connection with one of these, anold hunter, an interesting incident occurred. During the homeward voyage of the Kite wetouched at Dexterity Harbour, on the west side ofBaffin Bay, and found there a considerable settlementof the west-side natives. In conversation with these. Appendix II 489 natives, we learned that they knew of this hunter andhis sister, and one old woman in the village had,when a girl, seen him, but she said that he had gonenorth years ago, and then disappeared, no one knewwhere. They expressed the liveliest interest in hear-ing about him, andfrom them we learnedthat as a young manthis same hunter hadlived at various timesall the way from Cum-berland Gulf to theshores of EllesmereLand, north of JonesSound. There seemedto be no possiblechance for this to bea case of mistakenidentity, as the sisterof this hunter was adeaf-mute, and thesepeople spoke of
