The substation buildings are structures of white brickresting on concrete foundations and have concrete floors. Afloor plan reproduced herewith shows the method of dividingthese station buildings so that accommodations may be af-forded for the electrical equipment and for transportationoffices. It will be noted that the part of the structures utilizedby the transportation department comprises the sectionnearest the track. This portion is divided into three rooms:a general waiting room, a ticket office and a baggage and ex-press room. The waiting room is furnished with benches of antique. There are seven Allis-Chalmers step-up transformersof 500 kilowatts capacity each, arranged in two banks of threeeach, with one held as a reserve, connected to raise thevoltage from 405 volts to a maximum of volts. Inter-mediate taps allow the voltage to be varied it desired. Thecurrent is carried from each bank of transformers to the high-tension bus through three oil switches of 40 amperes capacity oak and is heated by Consolidated electric heaters mountedalong the baseboard. The operating office in each station hasa bay window on the track side, so that the agent can observeapproaching trains. At the opposite end of the operatingoffice a fireproof door leads to the substation machine roomand doors at the sides of the office lead, one to the waitingroom and one to the baggage room.
