He was educated in Sewickley township,attending the public schools, but was unable to gratify his desires in ad-vanced education, early entering upon a mans work. Until 1902 he farmedand operated a saw mill, although his personal attention during this timewas given mainly to lumber dealing, and in the latter year he moved toLeetsdale, in 1905 entering the plumbing and hardware businesses, his firmfirst transacting business as Sommerville, Cook & Company, later becoming.
