November 22, 1913.] ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL 1109 ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES REPLACE EXPENSIVETRUCKING SERVICE The plant of the Chase Rolling Mill Company, Water-bury, Conn., is located about ij/2 miles from the nearestrailroad track and at an elevation considerably above therailroad. Heretofore all the hauling raw material andfinished product to and from the station has been handledby eight-horse teams. This proved to be expensive, cost-ing at least 50 cents a ton. Some construction data onthis extension were published in the Electric Railway. Truck Showing Outside-Hung Motors Journal for Aug. 30 in an article entitled Way Con-struction of the Connecticut Company. To replace theseteams an electric line miles long, with a maximum gradeof 5 per cent, was built from the railroad to the mill. TwoBaldwin-Westinghouse 45-ton electric locomotives werethen employed to handle the work formerly done withtwenty eight-horse teams. Each locomotive is equippedwith four Westinghouse Xo. 301-D-2, 100-hp, 600-voltmotors geared 17:60, type HL control, and No. airbrakes.
