The holotype in the BGS collections, figured by Hind (1900: pi. 44, fig. 11), is a young individual with both valves preserved. The holotype of Sanguinolaria trans- versa Portlock, in the same collection, was also figured by Hind (1900: pi. 45, fig. 1). SM E1045, here designated the lectotype of Sanguinolites iridinoides M'Coy, is the specimen figured by M'Coy, and is from the Visean of Lowick, Northumberland. Other material.
