Lieutenant Estep captured this photograph during World War One. It shows the first wave of soldiers advancing under a rolling barrage until they reached a point where the barrage could not go further. At that point, the soldiers proceeded to their objective without a barrage. The line between Essey and Lamarche, France was remarkably smooth and uninterrupted. The image was released by the Censor, but the exact date of its issuance is unknown.
