Ringwood,Hampshire Monday 30th May 2016 Eighty firefighters from stations across Hampshire and Dorset are attempting to contain a blaze that has broken out in a 50ft deep and 30 ft wide hole at the Veolia Blue Haze Landfill site in Somerley,Ringwood crews were alerted to the blaze just after this evening. Fire commanders in charge of the incident have called in two high volume pumps (HVP) from Hampshire and Dorset to help bring a much-needed water supplies in an attempt to extinguish the blaze. The pumps have capability of pumping 14000 litres of water a minute they are normally used to clear flooded areas. Two miles of heavy-duty hoses lay at the side of the main Ringwood Road from the Veolia site in to Somerley Village. The scene resembles like you have landed on the moon with damaged of needles and other house hold waste. Crew efforts to tackle the blaze are being further hampered due to the location of the fire 50 feet down a hold,crews with high pressure jets tackling the blaze from above. Most are having to work under torch light in thick smoke. Nearby residents have been warned to keep all windows and doors closed as acrid smoke billows from the site. Staff and Managers on the Veolia Blue site praised the work of fire fighters on their professionalism in tackling and containing the blaze. A spokesperson from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) said: "There are currently 14 appliances and a number of personal at the scene and crews are working to get the fire under control. The Spokesperson went on to say that crews are likely to remain at the site for the rest of the night with further crews being brought in to replace fighter fighters who have already been at the incident since the start.@UKNIP
