An ancient rowan tree sits in the corner of an old enclosure on the track out of Achdivach into the hills beyond. It's position and age are curious as it looks like a deliberate planting rather than natural and these trees were believed to protect against evil. This track leads out towards Meall Fuar-mhonaidh and Carn na Caorach beyond, an area with links to "the Cailleach", a supernatural creature which prayed on unsuspecting so perhaps the tree was planted to dissuade her from visiting the settlement!
