He taughtfour years in the public schools, was Prin-cipal of the French Creek Academy, andserved his native county as Superintend-ent of public instruction. He was Princi-pal of the West Liberty Normal from 1886to 1893, when he was called to the Chairof Mathematics in the University. Thefollowing year he was given the Department•of English Literature where he is still doingInvaluable service for his Alma Mater. 29 He attended the common. Hon. Edgar P. subject of this sketch was born in Covington, Virginia, December,23rd, 1863. His youth was spent , Greenbrier county, W. Va., where he received such education as couldbe obtained in the public schools. Thiswas followed by a course in the Universitywhere he graduated from the Departmentof Law in IHH. Returning at once to Lew-isburg he began the practice of his profession. He was married in January, 1888to Miss Maud Applegate, of KeytesvilleMissouri. They lived at Princeton, Mercer county, removing in 1893 to WelchMcDowell county, where they still resideMr. Ruckers ability as a man was earlyrecognized, he being made the Republicancandidate for State Senator in the eighthdistrict the next year after his 1892 he made the race for Congress inthe 3rd district, and in 1896 he was electedAttorney General of the state which posi-tion he now holds.
