[Vol. XXVI. No. 6. There are two such single-pole main fuses on each side of thelocomotives. The boxes are enclosed, and the cut-outs areimbedded in porcelain. After passing the cut-outs the conductors coming from thetwo current collectors are connected together, and connectionsare then branched off to the high-tension lightning arresters,Fig. 18. The latter consists of a series of zinc rollers arranged. FIG. 12.—CURRENT COLLECTING DEVICE in a locked box. The zinc rollers are connected in Y. Thetwo end rollers are connected to the main conductors whichjoin the current collectors. The third end roller is earthed bygraphite resistance, and the whole apparatus is mounted in apiece of porcelain. After passing the lightning arrester, the two main conductorsare carried through one choking coil to the main distributing boxes, each ofwhich has fourbranches, two forthe primary switchand two leading tothe lowering trans-formers, whichsupply the air com-pressor with cur-rent. All high-tensionconductors of thislocomotive areplaced in metaltubes, which arecarefully grounded. PNEUMATIC MAS-TER CONTROLLER Through the two pneumatic master controllers fitted at both sides of the locomotive is operated the entire connectingand regulating apparatus of the motors, viz., the two primaryswitches, the speed controllers and the two water rheostats, in-cluding the short circuit
