Infection of a surgical wound after spinal decompression surgery. The patient is a 65-year-old woman with thyroid carcinoma, a type of cancer, which had metastasised (spread) and caused pressure on nerve roots of the spinal cord. Spinal decompression surgery aims to relieve this pressure. The infection has prevented the wound from closing fully.
