These were the only attempts atsculpture or painting Mackay saw in the interior. Elephants, hippos, giraffes and zebras were numerousin this desert. After a terekeza, or evening march,they arrived one night at a deserted village, wherethey found water, and having made a fire, they cookedsome potatoes and nuts, and lay down to , however, never ceased to torment them,and about lo the alarm was raised of an enemy.
