Scindia Ghat - Sunken Stairway and columns of the Shiva Temple, on the Ganges River, India. The construction of this temple and steps to the river began about 1830. Too much weight sunk the project before completion. Decades later, steps were constructed properly. "Ghat" is the word for a stairway down to a river, preferably a holy river. There are dozens of Ghats along the Ganges River in India, but this seems to be the only one that collapsed during its construction. Note, in the river at left, are partial stone columns and damaged buildings. Above the river you can see two sets of partial stone pillars separated by leaning wall and small building. Much of this has been corrected over the decades. To see all my Vintage images, key 2 words:  Prestor   vintage
