Marine Cpl. William Taylor and Sgt. Jeff Xiong, Combat Logistics Detachment 5, Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command, eat a snack to recover from donating blood during a walking blood bank that took place while in the Middle East Nov. 14, 2017. When blood is needed quickly in large amounts, or rare types are needed, a walking blood bank is activated and volunteers are gathered rapidly. The volunteers are processed, their blood is drawn and quickly taken to the operating room and transfused into the patient.
