Other managers viewed with surprise the wonderful successof these two parks and it was not very long before reports beganto flow in of other grounds being fenced in and grand standsgoing up. As for the second state of things, the increase in the numberof semi-professional teams, the term semi-professional beingapplied to those teams which play games for either a percentageof the receipts received from paid admissions, or a statedguarantee for the appearance of the team, the growth was fullyexpected. The building of so many new parks, over a dozenfirst-class ones coming under this head, has taken that numberof teams off the traveling circuit and increased the number ofgrounds by just that number. This created a condition wherea traveling team had more chance of getting a good game thanthe home team had and the better of the amateur teams havemoved up a notch in consequence and are now traveling thecircuit.
