He was gassed latein July, but returned to his battery soon after-wards: My Dear Brother Ray:—^\Yell, old man, just afew lines to tell you that I am still well, safeand happy, after going through the worstbombardment this world has ever known and,believe me, old boy, I have to thank my Godfor taking care of me, because twice I was prettyclose to death and would have sold my chancesfor two cents.
