During the visit, the commander thanked the Soldiers for their hard work and discussed the importance of the unit's rapid response capabilities. The 690th Rapid Port Opening Element is one of three RPOE units in the Army, which remain in a constant state of readiness, with one of the three units always on alert to support any mission at all times. To prepare, the RPOEs participate in multiple training exercises year-round alongside their Air Force and Navy counterparts to build on fundamental port opening skills and apply them to the ever-changing operational environment.
