But for decoration the Zonedwellers must go down into their own pockets andto a greater or less degree all do so. The authoritieshave not gone to the extent of prohibiting thisrivalry as at West Point and Annapolis where thecadets are not permitted to decorate their roomslest inequality and mortification result. But inPanama the climate enforces such a prohibition tosome extent. Luxury there would be positivediscomfort. Costly rugs and hangings, richly up-holstered furniture are out of place. Air space isthe greatest luxury, and a room cluttered with objectsof priceless art would be scarcely habitable.
