Disability. Therapist assessing the needs of a disabled man. Correct fitting of wheelchairs is vital to avoid complications, such as pressure sores, which can be life-threatening. Occupational therapists also advise wheelchair users on how to use their wheelchairs effectively. Photographed in Tanzania, where the Motivation Charitable Trust has been working with TATCOT (Tanzania Training Centre for Orthopaedic Technologists) since 1999. The centre provides training courses on wheelchair design and technology, and related issues such as assessment, prescription and fitting, to ensure that disabled people receive the best wheelchair for them.
