The Afghan Museum is located in the old "Speicher-stadt" of Hamburg. In a hundret years old ware-house, between a carpet-warehouse and the Museum of Spice, Afghan Museum makes the traditional Afghanistan accessible to the visitors. Among other things they show how a shoemaker traditionally works how bread is made and how a carpetmaker also called a "Porcelain-Doctor", knots broken dishes back together (porcelain is very expensive in Afghanistan). Besides this, they present you the reproduction of the Fort of Bost, the Big Buddha of Bamiyam (the original was destroyed), the Minarett of Djam and many more. At the end of the tour through the museum you can get a variaty of information material, that you can read calmly at a "Tschai". The AFKAH GmbH is a company that exports motor- and gearingoil to Afghanistan, Usbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, … . The company was founded 1990 in Hamburg by Mr. Nek Mohamad. Nek Mohamed was born in Afghanistan and had had the idea of founding the Afghan Museum to make Afghanistan more accessible to the interested fellows and also to maintain a piece of home for hinself and all other Afghan people who are living in Germany. The museum was artistically created by Mr. Hessan. He is an Afghan artist who was living in Germany. The first opening of the museum was 03/26/1998. The Museum doesn`t get any financial support. It is exclusively based on a privat budget.
