Thepresence of the grub causesthe fruit to prematurely dropwith the larva within. The latter, maturing, leaves theplum, burrows into the ground, and during the last ofsummer becomes a beetle. REMEDIES. — As a remedy the trees should be frequently shakenor jarred, and the weevils, falling into a sheet placed beneath thetree, should be collected and burnt. Forbes finds that about halfthe damage done by weevils may be prevented by spraying the treeswith Paris green early in the season, while the fruit is size, puncturing a plum.
