There isanother grove of big trees at Mariposa, which isbest reached from Lathrop and Merced. Theconq)arative inducements to visit one or theotlu-r, will be stated hereafter, and here will be de-scribed only the route from Stockton to the Cala-veras Grove. Cars leave Stockton at p. On the followingday one may reach San Francisco, or go to Gar-rote, 45 miles from the Yosemite Valley. Tovisit the Calaveras Grove and Yosemite A^alley bythis route requires 145 miles of staging.
