Blocked artery. Coloured magnetic resonance angiogram of a coronal (frontal) view through the neck of a 38-year-old male stroke patient. Bottom centre is the aortic arch, which curves over the heart. Two arteries lead off from this arch, the brachiocephalic trunk (right) and the left subclavian artery (left). Coming off these vessels are the right and left common carotid arteries, which split into two internal carotid arteries and two external carotid arteries (centre). The right internal carotid artery has become blocked (purple), restricting blood flow to the brain, which has led to a bleed in the brain.
