Plasma cells, light micrograph. Plasma cells are B lymphocytes activated by the presence of antigens that secrete large quantities of antibodies. They appear in tissues affected by chronic inflammation. These plasma cells have eccentric nuclei and basophilic cytoplasm with a pale zone corresponding to a large Golgi apparatus.
