Vitamin D3. Molecular model of cholecalciferol (), also known as vitamin D3 and toxiferol. This vitamin (actually a prehormone) can be synthesized in the body when sun exposure is adequate. The active form, calcitriol, regulates the synthesis of hundreds of enzymes. Atoms are represented as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (grey), hydrogen (white) and oxygen (red).
