Light microscopy of the human prostate gland showing many epithelial glands (blue) supported by smooth muscle within connective tissue (red). Glands empty into the prostatic urethra via numerous ducts. One gland contains a dense round body, stained magenta. Often numerous and increasing in number from middle age, they are called corpora amylacea (amyloid type bodies) and contain secreted proteins and calcifying material. Magnification x70 when printed at 10 cm.
