The right of way and ditches are also kept in a neat and clean condition,with the possible exception of the line betwen Savannah and East Moline,where, owing to the sandy nature of the soil, there is some difficulty in keep-ing the ditches clean. Their right of way fence is the standard barb wirefence, with boai-d wing fences at highwaj^ crossings, and maintained in goodcondition. CONCLUSION. All the lines of the C, M. it St. P. Ry Co. in this State were inspected,with the exception of the piece from Warren to Mineral Point, miles,Galewood to Dunning, miles, and Rondout to Libertyville, 3 miles, or a i. LXXIII total of miles. The line from Galewood to Libertyville is now being ex-tended to Fox Lake, and it is the intention to have it in operation by January1st, 1900. All overhead bridges and Howe truss bridges are protected oneither side with bridge warnings, but they are not always in proper con-dition, because they are not provided with wire netting as they should road is well pi-ovided with highway crossing signs, station signs, whistleposts, etc, necessary for the safe and convenient operation of its trains. As above noted, all switches where double track is in use are put in trail-ing, and it is deserving of special mention, that on all such lines only threefacing point switches are in \ise. On single track line where crossovers areput in, they are also put in trailing where it is possible to do so. Portablewooden skotch blocks are placed near the end of each side track having con-nection
