The Long Mynd is a part of the Shropshire Hills. Emerging suddenly and steeply from the farming landscape below it rises to 516metres (1693ft).

Bracken is a plant which is prominent in these landscapes. Its fern-like leaves emerge in spring with a bright green colour. In autumn and winter the plants die above ground and become a dramatic orange colour later turning brown. Bracken is sometimes considered a problem plant because of its coverage. Sheep, which graze much of the Long Mynd some of the time, encourage bracken by eating young shoots of other plants while ignoring bracken.
