Virtual aerobics. Researcher James. W Davis of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, working out in front of a prototype of the Virtual Personal Aerobics that he developed. He is following the instruction and routine of the drill sergeant on the television screen. The camera below the television, records the shape of the subjects at regular intervals. A computer will then compare this data with fixed templates in its memory. By making this comparison it attempts to recognise a pattern and thus judge the subject's actions. The system can be used to judge exercise technique and effort. The drill sergeant on screen will react accordingly.
